SERIES 4: A Nation's Healthcare
Modern Singapore sets a leading example in terms of healthcare for countries, first-world and otherwise. The country offers leading quality medical care and technology at a lower cost than any other high-income country in the world - a journey that would not have been made possible without the devoted tenacity and care of healthcare professionals: administrators, planners and policymakers alike, who have demonstrated ingenuity and resourcefulness in coming up with creative solutions to address the many problems our young nation has faced.
The book display case opens to reveal a stunning artistic rendition of the infrastructure and landmarks that mark the progress and journey of our dynamic nation over the many years.
The journey of Singapore’s healthcare system has come a long way since the 1800s when Singapore was under British rule. Through the nation’s post-independence growth, our pioneering leaders and generations laid the foundations with foresight, planning for the public’s future healthcare needs through environmental and personalised healthcare schemes and programmes, building up facilities and nurturing a workforce that make up the world-class system that Singaporeans enjoy today.
Minted on the Gold (999) proof medallion’s obverse in glorious high-relief is an antique stethoscope alongside a Chinese ‘medicinal boat’ or medicine miller -hallmarks of both Western and traditional Eastern healing defining Singapore’s early healthcare system. Laid over a shimmering heart, they represent the passion and dedication with which our predecessors shaped our present-day successes.
Both the Silver (999) proof medallion and Rose Gold proof-like medallion features the inaugural performance of the Great Singapore Workout, an exercise that entered the nation into the Guinness Book of Records, as a centre motif. With the historic Bowyer Block clock tower in the background and a futuristic medical robot at the forefront, the design represents the glittering future of Singapore’s healthcare system.
