SG50 Numismatic Currency Collection
A set of six commemorative currency notes were released in 2015 to celebrate Singapore’s 50th anniversary. Appointed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) as the exclusive marketing agent for the project, Noel Gifts oversaw the packaging, marketing and sale of the SG50 Numismatic Currency Sets. This exclusive series of seven limited edition sets carrying the commemorative notes were presented in elegant numismatic albums of gold or red, with special magnetic frames.
Designs for the commemorative notes were based on the significant milestones and achievements of Singapore, as well as the nation’s core values, beliefs and aspirations.
The $50 note, in particular, encapsulated Singapore’s history, transformation and future. Illustrating the pivotal moment when Singapore first gained internal self-governance, the image depicted the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew with his fist raised as he shouted “Merdeka!” in a rallying cry. The note was also coloured in gold to reflect Singapore’s Golden Jubilee.
Centred on the theme of ‘Vibrant Nation, Endearing Home’, the remaining five $10 notes each followed a different value or aspiration: Regardless of Race, Language or Religion; Opportunities for All; Safe and Secure; Strong Families; and Caring Community, Active Citizenry.
The full SG50 Numismatic Currency Collection comprises of a polymer $50 note, five $10 notes of the same material, as well as a $2 cupro-nickel coin, a $5 silver coin and a $50 gold coin that were launched in April earlier in the same year.
